Transforming your Nursery to a Big Kid Room
This project was so fun, and if it can be done during a pandemic while 7 months pregnant, it can basically be done by anyone, at anytime.
This project was seriously really fun.
We moved when my son was about 4 or 5 months old, so we never got the enjoy the AMAZING nursery I put together for him…but it did look fantastic in for sale photos (you’re welcome realtor).
After moving, we were waiting on our home to finished being built, and we moved in right before Christmas. Between moving in and literally now almost October, A LOT of life happened, so my son was hanging out in a pretty blank, boring room.
Our theme we knew we wanted to go with was Basketball, but our home is super modern on the inside and we wanted to keep that sleek, modern feel to his room.
Something we literally wont have to change until hes probably in Junior High.
So instead of going all out with the orange basketball room, we stuck to black and white accents with small pops of orange - which if you are trying to find anything basketball related in just black and white - good luck its very hard.
It took me months of research, Pinterest boards, and vision boards to really put things together to ensure I was making purchases that were going to look and feel right in his room.
Here is what we added:
New big boy crib
New basketball watercolor bed sheets & changing table sheet
Storage Cubes in place of a dresser
Modular Kids Couch in place of a rocker recliner chair
Instead of painting opted for a black vinyl decal
Tiered storage cubes in the closet with bins
Large black and white family photos
Scoreboard
Custom Basketball Hoop*
11 x 7 patent graphic outlines for:
Basketball Court
Basketball Shoes
Basketball Rim
Basketball
Molekule for the cleanest of clean air
I’m not going to lie to you, this whole room probably took a year. Between finding the RIGHT fits for everything, finding in stock items during a pandemic & if those items can even ship, and not buying everything at once. We spread out our purchases (because we also have a second baby on the way) so his room came together little by little.
*Custom basketball hoop coming for christmas :)
Here are some of my favorite photos of his room, and I have also linked some of our favorite things from his room above.
