Better late than never...Vlog included
Blog #3 - Whole30 & Crave Health - 30 Day Reset Update
Day 1 Vlog
A day late, but better than never. We had my amazing mother and fathers birthday celebration yesterday, so we were busy with family time which is much more important than blogging time. Lets get into it... ONE WEEK DOWN! The first week was ROUGH, there is no doubt in that but it gets so much easier from here. We have a lot of reflections on this last week, and will be approaching this week very differently.
Reflections:
We spent WAY to much money the first round going by the book grocery shopping. I also didn't shop around much for basic things, we just stuck with Fred Meyers. Last week all groceries came out to $224.20, and that is following each recipe exactly by the Whole30 book.
Know you will be cranky the first week. You will also have headaches, migraines and be so tired that you will fall asleep on top of your bed...starfish style ( I do this anyways but that's besides the point).
I spent too much time COOKING. I came home everyday, made dinner and meal prepped for our breakfast and lunch if i needed too. Although I did so much prep on Sunday, I was not prepared for the servings we would eat (Travis...) so I ended up having to prep everyday.
Take the weekend OFF. When I say take the weekend off, I do NOT mean cheat by any means. What I mean by that is, take the weekend to relax do not spend it cooking all day or grocery shopping like a crazy person. Take some time to yourself. Find snacks that you can munch on that are Whole30 approved and still be drinking a lot of water. For dinner, keep it simple and have your partner help you if they haven't been. This is something you can do solo, but also together! Also, when eating out you may want to indulge just once, but DONT! I faced 2 instances when I was either eating out, or someone else was cooking. I went with the house salad, no goat cheese or candied pecans, added more fruit and got oil and vinegar on the side. It was actually really great! When eating at a friends or families house, make sure they are aware you are on a restriction, it makes life for everyone less awkward. We brought our own Whole30 Approved BBQ sauce, and our own snacks. Our host didn't mind, and it made us less likely to go for the cake... although I forced everyone to describe each bite to me.

What is different this time around:
We are taking a different approach this week. Instead of doing it by the Whole30 book, we went ROGUE! We now know what we can, and cannot have so I not only grocery shopped smarter this time, but we bought things we truly could meal prep all in one day!
I bought a large bag of Costco brand chicken breast and we made different flavors. We have the classic lemon and pepper, a fun and spicy Cajun, garlic and onion. Along with the different types of chicken, I am baking some delicious veggies! We have carrots in olive oil with salt and pepper, as well as broccoli. In addition, I made butternut squash with olive oil and a bit of cinnamon, and brusselsprouts with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. All super easy, the chicken went on the BBQ, and the veggies could all mingle together in the oven! Instead of spending almost $230 this week, we spent $100! That includes everything we need for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and snacks for the weekend. I felt way better about the grocery shopping this time around, than last time around. Most of the produce I was able to buy in bulk at Costco, as well as the chicken breasts. There were a few produce items I grabbed at Fred Meyer, and snacks we bought at Trader Joe's.
I am excited to see how this week goes, I think we are much better prepared. My sisters friend (I stole her as a friend as well, Hi Colleen!) was AMAZING and sent me a Whole30/CraveClean snack approved list, so I have included it below, because it was life saving.
See you Wednesday!
